Sunday NOLA Bar Crawl

4.9.12

We started Sunday off with breakfast at one of our favorite New Orleans spots for breakfast, Cafe Beignet.  There are a few locations in the quarter, but we prefer the one with the music legends out front.  You can sit outside and listen to local musicians.  Fabulous musicians.  And it's very rarely crowded.

Cajun hashbrowns with green bell peppers, onions and andouille sausage?  Most favorite breakfast ever.  B had some beignets.  And then?  They even had a banana tree.

After a short nap (breakfast did it to us!), we decided to walk down to the French Market.  I pretty much just wanted to get a yummy drink and sit down (it was quite windy and my skirt kept blowing up), so we hit up the Gazebo Cafe for the first of many drinks of the day.

B had a spicy bloody Mary and I had a Louisiana lemonade.  Yum yum.

We then decided it was time for somewhere cooler.  And we could only think of one place that was dark and dungeon-like.

Pat O's!

If you get the chance to, skip out on the traditional Hurricane and try the Purple People Eater.  Both give you just enough, without making you feel drunk.

Then we hit up Jean-Lafitte's Blacksmith Bar for some brews.  This is also a great hangover spot.  All dark and whatnot.  Be careful not to walk into the men's bathroom. You think the women's is back in the same spot; it's not.  And the men's room is all trench style.  Not a good experience for me.

Then for our final stop of the day, we went to the Hotel Monteleone for the Carousel Bar and for some sazerac.  Which isn't the greatest drink in the world, but very appropriate in New Orleans.

These were just the bars in the quarter; we did hit up Spotted Cat on Frenchman, but I ended up not feeling so well, and we left.  There are some other greats on Frenchman too, so make up your own bar crawl, and have fun!
