SmellS like Summer

28.6.11

I have a thing for fragrance. I only have about a million of them, but I like to keep people guessing on which one I'm wearing. It's so crazy that all of the perfumes I'm about to list are all designer, yet I only have a few designer pieces in my closet, and those were bough on Ebay.

I got this one for the wedding. I wanted something nice and light, so everytime I wear it, I get reminded of my wedding day!

A little heavy, but works great on date night!

A little flirty. Kind of makes me feel like I'm back in college going out to a bar trying to pick up men.

I just got this one, and I love it!! It smells so good, that I practically sit at work and smell my wrists for the first hour. Yeah, it is THAT good!!

I hope I could be some assitance if you were looking for that great summer fragrance!

On another note, starting week 2 of Jillian and her Ripped in 30 tonight, and I am not excited about it one bit.

Anniversary + Red Mango

27.6.11

My new job is located in the absolute middle of nowhere. There are no fun places to eat, but thank goodness for the development of the Leeds/Moody area, there are some pretty great outlets.

I spent way too much money here last week, but Gap and Banana Republic at 50% off? I am so in.

And then I discovered another sweet little gem hidden right next to the Ghiradelli store. Hello Red Mango! They have fro-yo; they have smoothies, and are a much better alternative to the food court with contains a Sbarro (worst fast food ever...calorie wise...seriously, look it up), a BK, some fried chicken place and a Chinese place. I walked in and got a strawberry/banana energy smoothie, and it was amazing. I am a fan for life.

And since of course since today is our 2 year anniversary, I'm reliving our wedding by posting some of my favorites from that very hot June day!

I love you boo! I'm glad that you are able to put up with me, but I guess it does make it easier that you travel so much! Kidding. I love you crazy face; let's make it 50!!

Weekend

26.6.11

Tomorrow is our two year anniversary. We were going to go and do a weekend trip to Nashville, but decided to stay up till 5 am with some friends Friday night, and well, spent all of yesterday in bed.

So trip canceled, obviously, but I can't remember a day where we seriously didn't get out of bed till like 6 p.m., and then that was only to get a sub from Publix for dinner, because seriously, no cooking on lazy day.

Red Rock in Vegas. My hair is so not blonde anymore, but I love this picture of the two of us (mainly because hubs almost fell of the rock before this same picture, right after his dad had done the same thing five minutes earlier).

Ugh, it was hot there.

Ugh, it's hot here.

But now it's 8:38am on a Sunday, and I refuse to waste this day too. A day filled with Target, Costco and laundry, and possibly testing out my new nail polish.

I heart OPI and their new Texas polishes. They are fabulous.

I got the Austintacious Turquoise and the Do you think I'm Tex-y.
I am pretty excited about them both.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Vegas Fun-ness - Fremont Street

23.6.11

Fremont Street is amazing. This is the street everyone thinks of when they think "vegas." It's the street that has all the old casinos on it, plus the landmarks that most people associate with Las Vegas.

I love anything bright. Neon is no exception. I only wish I would have been alive back during Vegas' hey day to see it how it was, because as you will see, it has definitely been modernized.

The actual Fremont Hotel and Casino. Sorry, some of these pictures came out a little blurry. The signs are soooo bright, and I'm still getting used to my camera.

The Four Queens Casino.

The view down Fremont Street. You can see the dome-like thing built above. They did a light show on this at some point in time during the night. It was neat, but I really wish they would have left this street alone. They also pedestrian-ized it, so you can walk up and down this street with no fear of getting hit by cars.

The cowgirl. I can't find out where my picture of the iconic cowboy went. I'm a little upset about that, too. Hubs has a black and white that was taken by his grandpa from back in the day downstairs, and it would have been pretty awesome to have those side by side.

Binion's Casino.

The Golden Gate Hotel and Casino. You can see the stage with the band on it. There were about three of these stages all with live music. It was sooo crowded there, and some crazy drunk lady decided that she would scold hubsy about something. She had about three teeth (not that there's anything wrong with that), but he couldn't understand her for anything.

In the middle of all this fun? The Golden Goose- a Gentlemen's Club. Oh yes, I kid you not.

A chandelier inside the hotel that's connected to the Golden Nugget. Did you know there was an actual golden nugget somewhere in that casino? We walked around for a good fifteen minutes looking for it, but to no avail.

Some other fun things about Fremont Street:

  • You can zipline straight through the middle of it. We didn't do it, mainly because it cost a pretty penny, but it did look fun.

  • Miller Lite Cans, 2 for $4.

  • Street food vendors. Yummmmmm.

  • Cute little street vendors with little treasures to sell.

It was so much fun. A trip to Vegas should definitely include a trip to Fremont Street!!

Wednesday Ramblings

22.6.11

  • I started my new job this week and it's been pretty awesome. Everyone is so nice, it's unreal.

  • My hair is now brown again. Ugh. I wish I could make up my mind.

  • Vodka tonics have pretty much become my most favorite drink of the moment. They're not heavy on my stomach, making it the perfect summer drink, well besides margaritas and the daiquris and all the rest of the tropical awesomeness.

  • I found out through the hubs being gone that cereal and peanut butter toast make a perfectly acceptable dinner.

  • Do y'all remember Dawson's Creek? Am I a total loser for watching all my DVDs when there is nothing on TV? I don't think so, but I can't remember why I even thought I understood what was going on in that show when I was sixteen.

  • I am on day 4 of Jillian's Ripped in 30. It is so hard! she is one crazy bia. But she is very effective, and have already noticed a little muscle in my arms. I do love her so.

yes I am obsessed.

I can't wait to have full use of my "s". That package needs to HURRY up!

My Celeb Look-Alike

21.6.11

Ok, since this has happened more than one time (most recently today), I am gonna let y'all be the judge. I have been told, probably since I was 18 that I look like Celine Dion. I don't take any offense to this, because like every other teenage girl I used to cry my eyes out to "My Heart Will Go On " (don't even try to pretend that you didn't). Leonardo was so hot in that movie!!

Celine.....

me.

The only reason I'm letting y'all see this dorked out picture is because it's the only picture I have where you can clearly see my face. (This was the night of our engagement in case you were curious).

so let me know if you see it. sorry this post is short and weird, but I am working from a different computer and the 's' button doesn't work. Try writing an entire post copying and pasting that little letter!!

Vegas Restaurant Review: Baby Cakes

20.6.11

Just so you know how good this place is, I have had drooling dreams about it since we left. This was totally worth the hour wait (plus the second trip; oh yeah, we went there twice)

Go here to read their entire menu, but first, come with me on this delicious journey...

The outside of the place; it's located in a little strip mall, with incredibly limited seating. Hence the long wait. However, the wait was only long during the weekend. There was no wait on Tuesday when we just had to go back for more.

Their list of specials...

The red velvet pancakes that they are famous for. They were sooooooo good. Yes, that's cream cheese syrup on the side over there.

Cinnamon bun pancakes. Holla.

The Ranchero omelet. Spicy, but oh so yummy. These people really know how to make an omelet.

I can't remember what my mother-in-law got but it was another omelet, and it was delicious. Can't remember the name, but trust me, it was amazing.

The second time we went, there were more omelets and more pancakes. Plus the hubs got a Nutella Crepe (I looove Nutella; if you haven't tried it, you really should. It's great on toast in the morning!)

I give this place a million stars out of 5. If you are in Vegas, you should go there. Maybe even twice in 4 days like we did.

Delta Sucks

18.6.11

Yes, how true this statement is....

I am actually supposed to be in Kansas right now. I'm supposed to be at the shooting range with my dad shooting a .45. I'm supposed to be eating a gigantic steak and twice-baked potatoes, and hanging with my dad and step-mom.

So why, you ask, am I blogging from Birmingham?

Well, let me tell you...

Yesterday was my last day at Penske Truck Rental (HALLELUJAH...worst place ever. Never work there), and so I had a flight to go see my dad. The flight was supposed to take off at 5:45, and when I got to the airport it was showing to be on time. I had about a 40 minute layover in Memphis before catching my flight to Kansas City.

So I get my gummi bears and a water and am chilling at the gate. Then a girl from across the way goes, " Are you on the flight to Memphis?" I nod my head yes, just assuming she was making sure she was at the right gate. And then she goes, "Did you know we're on an hour delay?" I'm like "whaaaa?" So I call my dad, and I'm like, "uhhh?" We eventually just said that we would have to reschedule, after my dad had to argue with the people for a refund (which he got, because I'm guessing it wasn't the perfect weather stopping the plane from going).

He'll be coming out here for July 4th now, with Kansas City steaks and ribs in hand.

But moral of the story: I will NEVER, EVER EVER book a flight on Delta again.

Ugh. Tired.

15.6.11

Vegas was a blast! I can't wait to share all the pictures and fun for y'all!

We stayed up way too late last night for a 7:30am flight this morning, but it was totally worth it.

We lost money, but not too much.

We ate ourselves silly.

We shopped and walked and ate some more.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Things I Love: Blue Door Boutique

10.6.11

Usually I'm pretty thrifty when it comes to clothes shopping. Hey, I'm 27, and I don't have too much to my name, plus a mortgage and a dog, and my other obsessions. But when I saw this little boutique, I fell in love. And then when I found out they had an online store, I fell even harder. Why you may ask?

They are in Columbus, GA.

I am in Birmingham, AL.

See my dilemma?

But they have the most adorable pieces, and I treat myself every 3-4 months or so with something fantastic from their place. Here are a few things that I am currently drooling over:

Zip Top Coral Tank. I want. I want this more than french fries. Plus I want to look like this girl. All the "models" are actually people who work there. Cool, huh?

No Brainer Maxi. Yeah, no brainer. No brainer that I want this!

Fringe-tastic Tunic. A.dorable. Seriously. I'm like torturing myself here.

Feel like going shopping: go here.

I wish I could have gotten all of this to take on my Vegas trip, but alas, I am settling with the clothes I already have. I'll be back on Wednesday with more pictures and restaurant (who are we kidding....buffets) reviews than you'll be able to handle!!

Have a good weekend!

Randomness Never Hurt Anyone

9.6.11

Ok, so I'm going to random it up a little. With all the bad and negativity in my life, I'm just going to put down a whole bunch of stuff that makes me happy.

When I quit this job, I didn't think it would be like this. I didn't think people would outright "shun" me. Let alone a group of grown men. If anything, it has made me even further realize that I made the right decision. It has also made me decide that when (not if, but when) I have my own business, that I will strictly only hire women.

Here's some photos of the stell-dog. She is such a sweetheart. I spend more time with her than I do with my husband, since he is out of town so often. She's not supposed to be on the bed, but seriously? Can you look at that face and say no? I didn't think so.

And she always, always, has some kind of toy in her mouth. Sometimes two. She is so motivated by toys, it's funny.

Aww, I just wanna squeeze those cute little ears off!

My mom and step-dan (aka GUIDO!) sent me flowers for my new job! How sweet was that?! Then when I called to thank them, Guido was like, "Did they put pink flowers in there. I told them to put pink flowers in there since it's your favorite color." Really? I heart him.

If anybody can identify this flower, please tell me what it is. I love it!! Well, it probably doesn't matter. Scenario: I find out what these flowers are. I rush to Lowe's/Home Depot to buy them. I plant them in the ground. They die two days later. I have no planting gene whatsoever.

My lemony-goodness cupcakes! I got this out of my cupcake cookbook. The baking part I got down; the frosting part I need help with, plus it didn't turn out as yellow as I wanted. But that doesn't really matter when I'm chowing down on them; amazing!

Ugh. I can't take a good cupcake picture to save my life. They look like crap here, but trust me, these were my best batch yet. Nobody got burned; nobody got under-cooked. The toothpick came out nice and clear. I patted myself on the back for these!

So, a few random tidbits of happiness. I can't wait to share what the new bride is doing with her bridesmaid invitations!! They are so cute! I'm so glad that I get to re-live a wedding. I am so so so glad that this girl gets to plan the bachelorette party....I just love weddings!
