Hello, Texas!

23.9.10

My husband travels often for his job; he does auditing for a bank. A few weeks back, he went to Austin for an audit...and when he gets back, apparently has made the decision that we're moving HERE:

So I'm a very open-minded individual...I have nothing against Texas, so I started doing some research on this city that we're apparently moving to, and this is what I found:

1. Gorgeous skyline:

2. Great football...

3. Great bars....

4. And Texas cowboys.....

Ummmm....count me in!!

WDE!!

19.9.10

Yesterday, Bennett and I went to the Auburn/Clemson game. And it was one of the most amazing games I've ever witnessed. Everytime I go back to Auburn, I get a certain sense of nostalgia...even while walking through the campus with all the new construction and everything...

Here you can get an outsider's look on what makes AU so amazing:

ESPN Crew Heaps Praise On Auburn Experience

Love them or hate them, the ESPN GameDay crew has had nothing but good to say about its time in Auburn. Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit rolled into town Thursday and say they always look forward to the trip to Auburn.
Speaking to WTVM television in Columbus on Friday, Fowler says the Auburn experience is unique. "It's hard to put a finger on it, but there's this close bond here between generations, between alums who come back to the school; there really is a kind of family feel, there's a real passion for the Tigers," said Fowler.
"I think there's something special in the connection that people feel for this school and how it's maintained years after they leave."
Herbstreit agreed.
"You can feel the tradition; you can feel it whether we came here 10 or 20 years ago, as soon as you step on the campus it exudes tradition," added Herbstreit.
"We went to a restaurant last night that's just quaint, it's just a nice college town people are very friendly I could see how it you live in the south you would want your son or daughter to come to this school."

People for some reason are always going to hate on Auburn..and it makes me sad. I wish people would realize I feel the same way about this place that they do about their own school. And even though yesteday wasn't a great showing for AU football (or my lover Cam), I still love them.

Love of My Life

13.9.10

I know you may be expecting a picture of my husband here...but no. Here is my new love....

His name is Cam Newton. He is Auburn's quarterback. And I am so in love! Look at that smug little smile...all dressed up in this season's oh-so-fashionable black and white. All 6'5" goodness. It sure doesn't hurt that he is the quarterback of my alma mater, but wow. So glad I get to stare at that for the next 2 years!

NYC

In December, hubby and I are going to PA to see my mom. We are dedicating one day to seeing New York City....and this is why I can't wait.

There are a lot of pictures, so make sure to scroll through them. I heart New York! This southern girl has gone Yankee!

Beginning of Fall

5.9.10

Labor Day unofficially announces the beginning of fall. This means camping out, football (of course), the smell of pumpkin spice, and the coming of Christmas. So here is a fun little recipe (that I will unfortunately probably be trying in the microwave) to do. I guess maybe on a grill or something, or the gas stove? Can you do that?
Raspberry S'mores!!!!

Ingredients
8 graham crackers
32 large marshmallows, cut in half
2 1.5-ounce chocolate bars (such as Hershey's)
1 cup fresh raspberries
Directions
Adjust rack to middle position and heat broiler or toaster oven. Break the crackers in half to form squares and place on a baking sheet. Arrange 4 marshmallow halves on top of each square. Broil for 30 to 60 seconds or until the marshmallows are golden brown.
Break each chocolate bar into 12 pieces. Arrange the chocolate and raspberries on top of half the crackers. Invert the remaining marshmallow-topped crackers onto the raspberry-and-chocolate–topped crackers, pressing gently to make sandwiches. Stack them, if desired.

(Thanks again to realsimple.com for the recipe!! Slowly becoming my favorite website ever!)

War Eagle!!

2.9.10

So....this is what true beauty is....

That's right everyone!!! It's college football time again, and I can't wait!!! I love love love football season...it means, Chick-Fil-A breakfast, bourbon and War Eagles! It means singing Sweet Caroline after a win, and shakers and wearing orange.
I couldn't have gone to a better school. I love that place more than any other place in the world. It brings back so many memories of good things....undefeated 2004 season.... Jason Campbell, Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown. It brings back Mike and Ed's barbecue...sitting at a tailgate at 7 in the morning with a bourbon drink even when the game is at 6pm, going to the bars after the game when it's been raining and everyone is a mess...rolling Toomer's Corner...Jimmy John's... Toomer's Lemonade.... Sky Bar...and of course Supper Club.
I can't wait for this season!!
War Eagle!!

Caiprinha* Recipe

1.9.10

** For the badly misspelled entry before hand. I do apologize to Brazilians everywhere...and decided to put the recipe up for this delicious drink...

When we had them made, the Brazilian bartender actually used some cachaca that was incredibly expensive, but so smooth that we took shots of it.

The Caipirinha Recipe
You will need:
*Cachaca
*Limes
*Superfine sugar
*Crushed ice
*A "lowball", "rocks" or "Old-Fashioned" glass
*A pestle (from a mortar and pestle -- or something similar) for the muddling
Preparation:
1. Cut the ends off of the lime and discard.
2. Cut the lime in half lengthwise and cut out the white pith in the middle.
3. Cut the lime in half, and cut one half of the lime into four wedges and place in the glass. If your lime is small, you will need to add more lime to the glass.
4. Add one to three tablespoons of sugar. The amount of sugar depends on your personal taste as well as the size of the lime you are using.
5. Use the pestle to "muddle" the limes and sugar together. Basically, you want to crush the limes so that they mix in well with the sugar. Be careful not to break the skin of the lime. When you've gotten all of the juice out of the lime, you're done.
6. Pack crushed ice in the glass all the way to the top.
7. Add cachaca all the way to the top of the glass. (It's really only about 2 oz.)
8. Use a larger glass or bottom of a cocktail shaker and put it over the top of your drink. Pick up with two hands and shake very well for at least 15 seconds.
9. Garnish with a wedge or slice of lime.
****Drink...and enjoy the best caipirinha!********

(recipe taken from hubpages.com)

It also says that you could substitute rum or vodka for the cachaca, but goes on to say that you will not get the same delicious results... This is the one that our bartender made for us. Sorry it's sideways, just tilt your head like you've had one too many of these.... One day I'll learn how to flip it.
