Last Austin Afternoon

24.5.13

This week has been long.  Just really really really long.  They announced my promotion at work.

That was promptly followed by three people telling me how they expect all of this to fail.  All I've ever asked for was support.  I know that I am going to make mistakes.  My company has never had this position.  Ever. So yeah, I know that I'm not going to be perfect.  I know that all sorts of things are going to go wrong; I'm not that naive, but I would just like for someone, anyone, to say that hey, things might just be ok.

I also have to work this weekend, which sucks, but that's another story.

Anyway, again, on crappy crappy days I like to be reminded of something fun, and our last day in Austin (after our doughnuts), we went to the most gigantic Whole Foods, then just drove around.  We found a cute little brewery and had some queso and homemade chips.  I mean, could you have a better ending to a trip?

I don't think so.  So here ya go, Uncle Billy's Brew & Que

Here ya go guys, here's pretty much what I look like 99% of the time.

Queso with added bbq?  Yes.  And those chips?  I could eat this everyday for the rest of my life and be ok with it.

You can't see on the sign, but this place, of course being a brewery, does not serve Bud Light.  They had a snarky sign on one of those chalkboards, but I couldn't quite zoom in on it.

I'm really hoping that this weekend is amazing.  I can only assume that we're going to blow up the baby pool, mix up some frozen adult beverages and enjoy the sweet Southern sunshine.  After this week, I could most certainly use it.

Austin Cinco de Mayo

21.5.13

After drinking beer and Lime-A-Ritas all day, we decided to go to Sixth Street to see if there was anything going on.

And there definitely was.  We had to look for drink specials; apparently Sixth Street is known for them.  They also had a few art booths, street food, and even a petting place.  We were also just a tad bit hungry; I mean, sitting all day in the sun drinking will do that to a person, so we headed to the Iron Cactus , and the food there was incredible.

Their queso dip was probably the best I've ever had; and then, THEN, they put a fried egg on top of my amazing enchiladas . I mean, could food get any better?  B's convinced that all you have to do is put an egg on something, and it makes it exponentially better.  I tend to agree with him.

It was definitely a fun experience to get to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Texas.  I'm hoping that we'll get many more!

Lone Star Jam 2013

8.5.13

The whole reason we went down to Texas was to go to the Lone Star Jam - which was a two day event full of Texas country music.  Acts like Randy Rogers, Josh Abbott, Cory Morrow, Cody Johnson...look them up!  You won't be upset if you did.

Pretty much all we did was sit on the lawn, drink Bud Light and Lime-a-ritas.  I don't think I've had that much Bud Light since high school.  BUT it was super fun.  The weather was perfect both days...

Day 1.. .Saturday

Day 2...Sunday. Can you tell the difference??

And of course...some other pictures from the two days....

.
This guy knows how to relax.  It was really fun.  I hope we can repeat next year!!

Gourdough's & Mellizoz Tacos - Austin Food Trucks

7.5.13

One of the most awesome things about Austin is obviously the food trucks; they have little parks of these guys everywhere!  And with any kind of food you could possibly imagine; tacos, cupcakes, BBQ, New Orleans style food, shaved ice.... I mean seriously, whatever you want.

So the first truck we ate at had tacos that were incredibly amazing; we went straight for them as soon as we got off the plane...

The left one are my tacos; the one on the right was strictly made of mushrooms, and it was so amazing!!  That orange sauce was spicy and yummy.

B's tacos were super also, even though I can't remember what he had.  I wish I would have taken a picture of the menu, but, I was starving so I forgot!  But they all had incredible names, and the meat was super.

The second truck we went to was Gourdough's which is pretty much known for its gigantic doughnuts.

B had the Porkeys and I had the Mother Clucker.  That's right, just when you think a doughnut can't get any less healthy for you, fried chicken on top of it!!

I can't even tell you just how good the plain doughnut itself was...it was crispy on the outside and super soft on the inside.  And the sauce on the side was honey butter.  I really wish I could have one right now.

I honestly can't wait to go back already.

My Weekend....

6.5.13

was spent in the most wonderful city in the world.

It was a great damn weekend.  I'm going to bask in the awesomeness that was this weekend, filled with birthday dance parties, sweet Texas country music, Cinco de Mayo festivities, 252 shots, doughnuts...

I'm going to leave it at there for now...because there are really no words.

Austin, I love you and miss you already.

B's Austin Trip

5.3.13

Last week, B was in Austin . Was I jealous?  Yes, of course.  While he was there, he got himself a pretty nice pair of boots.  One day, I'll have a pair, too.  Hopefully this spring, we'll make our way over there again.  It really honestly depresses me just talking about it, but these places were worth a mention on the good ole blog here.

This is probably the place I'm most jealous of B going to.  I mean look at that doughnut!!  Can you even tell that it's a doughnut?!  Yes, underneath that pile of bacon is a doughnut.  I've read other Austinites talk about this place, and before I die, I will eat one of these.  Maybe two.

Next place B went was Hubert's Taco Hut in San Marcos.  B had some enchiladas with ranchero sauce.  He says, "good."  And a sweet ass picture of George Strait never hurts.  Signed.  Wants.

B says this was from Cooper's Pit BBQ.  He just got a picture of the food because he was in awe when we walked in . Apparently there is a gigantic pit as soon as you walk in, you tell them how much you want and whether or not you want it dunked.

One day, I'll train him to get pictures of the outside as well as anything that may be interesting.  Like a giant pit in the middle of a place.

I guess at least I get him to participate in such madness, and I should be happy.  That's all I can ask for.  Participation points for B.

Other Austin Awesomeness

11.6.12

Last night I was feeling particularly excited about our move to Austin.  So I went on Pinterest and went nuts.  Even bought a few things to proclaim my new loyalty to Austin and everything Texas (except the Cowboys.  never).  I can't wait to get them framed and hang them around the house!

Here's a few randoms from Austin that don't really fit into a post of their own...

Necessities before a flight.

The chairs at the Dallas airport bar.

Landmark RoundRock Donuts.  If you watch Man vs. Food, this is where he holds the huge doughnut up to his head.

I had a chocolate eclair.  BJ had a glazed doughnut and said it was amazing..

Casino el Camino....inside.  A Diners, Drive-ins and Dives locale.

Voted best burgers in Austin.

Unfortunately, we had gorged ourselves on too many food trucks, and found ourselves with their french fries; green chile sauce smothered in cheese.  Could.  not.  put.  it. down.  We at the whole thing.

Outside.  Love the view of Sixth Street in the background.

Lone Star beer...beer of Texas!

Hanging on the wall next to our table at Lala's.

The whole plays stays decorated for Christmas all the time.

Some more of the inside.

Hakeem destroyed our picture.

Katrina and I.  We just had to take a pic in front of the Christmas tree!

The boys played foosball while Katrina and I rocked the jukebox.  All full of old music, nothing new.  It was awesome.

The mirrored wall.  I love this with the lights reflecting.

Katrina and Hakeem's fur baby, Chaz.

Saw this on the wall next to our breakfast spot.

Migas at Cisco's for breakfast.  I wish I would have taken more pictures of this place.  This was the most amazing, hangover curing breakfast ever.

Amphitheater for Randy Rogers Band!  I'm going to need a pair of cowboy boots to find in around here.

Sweet shot before the show.

Awesome pork taco...in the airport!!

Can't remember what BJ had, but it was just as good!

Stella after picking her up from the kennel.  She was so excited.  I've never seen her almost jump over the door, but she really almost did.  she was happy to have us back!!

I don't know why it is that I'm so excited to leave a place that has brought me so many new and happy things . A marriage, a house, my Stell hell, employment, new friends...  But I guess that I am looking forward to a fresh start.  Not everything has been peachy 100% of the time, but I guess that's life.  I am grateful that I have a sister who is hilarious; and that my mother and father are still alive.  I'm just ready for a new adventure, and Austin is calling my name....
